The most effective way to protect your pet’s health over the long run isn’t reacting to problems as they appear. It’s staying ahead of them. Routine wellness visits give us the opportunity to monitor your pet’s health over time, catch early warning signs before they become serious concerns, and keep you informed about what’s normal and what warrants attention.

What a Wellness Exam Actually Involves

A complete head-to-tail health evaluation
A thorough wellness exam goes well beyond a quick once-over. Our veterinarian performs a complete head-to-tail physical examination, assessing your pet’s eyes, ears, teeth, skin, coat, weight, heart, lungs, lymph nodes, and abdomen. We look for subtle changes that might not be obvious to you at home, including things like early dental disease, a heart murmur, lumps that need monitoring, or weight shifts that suggest a dietary or metabolic concern.

We’ll also review your pet’s vaccination schedule, discuss appropriate parasite prevention based on their lifestyle and exposure risk, and ask about their diet, behavior, energy levels, and recent changes you’ve noticed. If bloodwork or other diagnostics are warranted, we can run most tests in-house and have results back the same day.

Why Routine Care Saves Money and Heartache

Early detection protects health
Many conditions, like kidney disease, diabetes, thyroid disorders, and dental disease, develop gradually with few obvious symptoms until they’ve reached advanced stages. The earlier we catch these issues, the more treatment options are available, and those options are often much more affordable than treating late-stage illness.

We recommend annual wellness exams for most adult dogs and cats. Senior pets benefit from visits every six months, since age-related health changes can move quickly. Puppies and kittens need a series of early visits to establish a vaccination schedule, discuss nutrition and growth, and build a health baseline we can reference for years to come.
