Why Pre-Anesthetic Bloodwork?
Surgical procedures, even routine ones, involve some risk. To minimize this risk, we carry out a thorough evaluation of your cat's health before administering general anesthesia. This involves reviewing your cat's health history, age, and weight, as well as testing liver and kidney function. This helps us ensure your cat can manage anesthesia safely.
Many vet clinics require pre-anesthetic blood work only for older cats or those with chronic health conditions. At Westmonte Animal Clinic, we consider it a standard part of all cat surgeries, as we believe it ensures the best possible care for your feline friend.
Post-Op Pain Management
Post-operative pain management plays a crucial role in helping your cat recover quickly and comfortably. We strive to prevent any discomfort that could slow their recovery time and cause them undue stress. Detailed instructions will be provided for monitoring your cat’s recovery at home.
Typically, this may involve the use of an Elizabethan collar to protect the surgical site, along with pain medication to alleviate discomfort. We also recommend restricting your cat's physical activity until they have completely healed.
If you observe any signs of infection or abnormal discomfort while your cat is recovering at home, please contact us immediately at (407) 862-6892.
